COMPARE APPS

Closet and outfit planner apps, compared

A closet app, also called a digital wardrobe or outfit planner, keeps track of what you own and helps you decide what to wear. This page compares six of them: what each one does, how it charges and who it may suit.

We make one of them, Stymigo, so it comes first and is marked as ours. What we say about the other five comes from their own App Store pages and websites, listed at the bottom.

The six apps

Stymigo Our app

Stymigo builds outfits from the clothes you already own. You add pieces from photos or a product screenshot, choose a plan for the day, and it suggests combinations that fit the weather where you are.

Standout
A day strip on the Today screen lets you look ahead to the coming days. When you own several tops, it repeats the same top less often. Temperatures show in °C or °F.
Pricing
Free for up to 10 items, with up to 15 new items every 30 days. Plus holds 50 items ($4.99 a month or $29.99 a year). Pro holds 300 ($9.99 a month or $59.99 a year). Plus and Pro have no monthly adding limit, and all plans include a 3-day free trial for eligible users.
Platform
iPhone only, on iOS 16.4 or later. Available in ten languages.

Acloset

Acloset, made by Looko Inc., is a closet app built around an AI stylist. You can chat with the stylist, get outfit ideas based on the weather and your schedule, and log what you wear on a calendar.

Standout
Tracks cost per wear. The maker’s site also lists a virtual try-on avatar and a Chrome extension for saving items while you shop.
Pricing
Free for up to 100 items. A larger wardrobe needs a subscription. The US App Store lists Basic ($3.99 a month), Premium ($9.99) and Expert ($24.99), each with a yearly price too.
Platform
iPhone, iPad and Android.

Alta

Alta, made by Flagship AI, Inc., builds daily outfits from your closet, the weather and your schedule.

Standout
Shows outfits on an avatar that resembles you, and builds packing lists and travel lookbooks from your destination and plans. It can also suggest what to buy to fill gaps in your closet.
Pricing
Free to download. Its site says it is free to use, and its US App Store page shows no in-app purchases.
Platform
iPhone and iPad on the App Store, in English only. The summary file on its site also lists Android and a website.

Cladwell

Cladwell is a closet and stylist app. It suggests outfits from clothes you own, and its Style tab also builds a capsule for the season of about 33 pieces, mostly ones you already own.

Standout
Color analysis from one photo, a “See it on me” preview of outfits on your own photo, and an AI stylist chat.
Pricing
Building your closet is free. Outfits, the capsule, color analysis and the stylist need a subscription, with a free trial for eligible new users. Its site lists web subscriptions at $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year, and the App Store lists several subscription options.
Platform
iPhone, iPad and Android, plus web subscriptions.

Indyx

Indyx is a closet organizer with outfit boards, a calendar and wear statistics. You add items from photos, forwarded shopping receipts or product links.

Standout
Closet analytics such as wear count and cost per wear, closet sharing with friends, and paid human styling. Its Lookbook, ten outfits styled for you from your own closet or with up to six new suggestions, starts at $150 on its site.
Pricing
The digital closet is free, and its site lists unlimited items and outfits. A paid membership, Indyx Insider, adds advanced wardrobe customization and detailed analytics. Its US App Store page lists a paid membership at $12.99 a month or $74.99 a year.
Platform
iPhone, iPad and Android.

Whering

Whering is a social closet app. You add items from photos, retailer sites or a product database, build outfits, and see wardrobe statistics such as cost per wear and color palette.

Standout
Dress Me shuffles pieces from your closet into outfits. You can plan outfits for events, collect looks in lookbooks, make packing lists and browse other people’s closets.
Pricing
Free to download, with in-app purchases. The US App Store lists credit packs from $2.99, an Outfit Maker purchase at $4.99 and several “Supporter” options from $0.99 to $49.99. The listing does not say what each one unlocks, so check in the app before you buy.
Platform
iPhone on the App Store, where it is labeled “Only for iPhone”, and Android on Google Play, according to its terms of use and help centre. A Chrome extension adds items from the web.

Which app suits you?

  • You want one clear answer each morning from your own closet. Stymigo, Alta, Acloset and Cladwell all suggest outfits from clothes you own, with the weather in the mix. Stymigo keeps to your closet, the weather and your plans. The others add extras such as avatars, shopping suggestions or an AI chat.
  • You want a community. Whering, Acloset and Indyx let you browse or share closets.
  • You want a person to style you. Indyx sells paid styling services.
  • You want to see outfits on yourself. Alta and Acloset use an avatar. Cladwell previews outfits on a photo of you.
  • You like capsule wardrobes or color analysis. Cladwell offers both.
  • You have a large closet and want to stay free. Acloset’s free tier covers 100 items, and Indyx lists unlimited items on its free closet. Alta says it is free to use. Stymigo’s free plan covers 10 items, so a big wardrobe needs Plus or Pro.
  • You use Android or iPad. Stymigo works on iPhone only. The other five each list an Android app, and Alta, Indyx, Acloset and Cladwell also list an iPad version on the App Store.

Looking for a Whering alternative?

The right alternative depends on what you want to change. If you would rather skip the social side and the credit packs, Stymigo works from your own closet, the weather and your plans, and its paid plans add room for more items. If you want to keep the community side, Acloset and Indyx also let you browse or share closets.

How we checked

For each app we read its US App Store page and its maker’s website. Prices are US App Store prices in US dollars, and other countries differ. We left out ratings and user counts, because makers report them in different ways.

We make Stymigo, so read our entry with that in mind. If you spot a mistake, write to support@stymigo.com and we will fix it.
